Antenatal care (also called prenatal care) and advice for couples planning to conceive are key steps in reducing the risk of pregnancy complications, including preterm birth. Attending regular appointments allows for close monitoring of both the mother and baby, helping to spot risk factors early and treat potential problems. Getting care even before pregnancy ensures better health during pregnancy.

Antenatal care involves scheduled visits with a midwife⍰ or doctor to discuss the health of the mother and baby, and to quickly identify and manage any complications.

What is prenatal screening?

Prenatal screening includes blood tests and ultrasounds that help identify the chances of certain conditions or birth defects in the baby, helping in early intervention. These tests are optional, and the level of detail depends on the type of screening you choose.

Speak with your healthcare provider to make informed decisions about prenatal screening and potential risks associated. It is worth remembering that most babies are born healthy, and it is up to you whether to have these screenings.
