I know that feeling guilty is a part of this journey. I've been there. It's very heartbreaking. But it's not your fault or your guilt. None of us wanted to have our babies earlier than nine months. But I understand that you are feeling like: What caused this? Or is it your fault? Or is it somebody else's fault?

Preterm birth can happen for many different reasons, often suddenly and without warning, but experts have found several factors that may increase the chance of preterm birth. Some can be managed to lower the risk, like making healthy lifestyle choices, while others, such as medical conditions, are out of your control. Social factors, like age, income, or limited support can also play a role.

It is important to remember that about half of all preterm births happen with no clear cause. It is completely normal for mothers to feel a sense of guilt, but please know that in most cases, there is nothing the parents could have done to prevent preterm birth.
